Message from the Residency Program Director

Dr. Ashley DuckettThank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). With a longstanding tradition of training outstanding physicians, we are fully committed to continuing that legacy. Our educational program is challenging, supportive, flexible, and tailored to meet the needs of each individual trainee.

The cornerstone of any excellent training program is the quality of its residents and faculty. We are fortunate to have superb residents who are bright, caring, professional, and supportive of one another. They form a diverse group that excels both individually and in team settings. Our residents play an active role in decisions related to curriculum changes and service design. The innovative and collaborative faculty in the Department of Medicine are dedicated to teaching in clinics, on wards, and through our educational conferences. They are leaders in research, education, and clinical care, and they see residents as junior colleagues, offering support and approachability.

Another strength of our program is the incredible diversity of patients. Our residents provide primary care for a significant portion of the South Carolina lowcountry population as part of our level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home. MUSC also serves as the tertiary referral center for the entire state. This balance of ambulatory and inpatient training experiences ensures that our graduates are equally well-prepared to practice in primary care, hospital medicine, or to pursue further training as subspecialists.

I could elaborate endlessly on the virtues of our program because I believe we have one of the finest training programs in the country. Instead, I invite you to explore our website, apply to our program, and meet our exceptional team!

Ashley Duckett, M.D.
