Message from the Residency Program Director

Dr. Ashley DuckettThank you for your interest in internal medicine training at the Medical University of South Carolina. MUSC has a long tradition of training outstanding physicians and we are absolutely committed to continuing that tradition. Our educational program is challenging, supportive, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the individual trainee.

A key to any excellent training program is the quality of the residents and faculty who form it. We are fortunate to have superb residents who are bright, caring, professional and very supportive of one another. They are a diverse group that function well individually and in team settings. Our residents are consistently involved in decisions involving curriculum changes and service design. The innovative and collaborative faculty in the Department of Medicine devote a major effort to teaching in the clinics, on the wards and in our educational conferences. They are leaders in research, education and clinical care. Faculty members see residents as junior colleagues and are supportive and approachable.

Another strength of our program is the incredible mix of patients. Our residents help provide primary care for a significant proportion of the patients in the South Carolina lowcountry as part of our level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home. MUSC also serves as the tertiary referral center for the entire state. Exposure to ambulatory and inpatient training experiences is well balanced. Our graduates are equally well prepared to practice in primary care, in the hospital, or to pursue further training as subspecialists.

I could write pages extolling the virtues of our program because I believe we have one of the finest training programs in the country. Instead, I invite you to review our website, apply to our program and meet our team!
