Spring Newsletter

In our Spring/Summer issue of SurgeOn, we feature the evolution of women in surgery across the country and within MUSC, beginning with brave women who entered the all-male-dominated operating theater in the 1970s, paving the way for the new generation of surgical trainees. In this issue, we recognize the many trailblazers, including Margaret Metcalf, M.D., the first female graduate from our training program, and we pay tribute to Carolyn Reed, M.D., who served as a mentor and advisor for numerous medical students, residents, and women faculty at MUSC and across the nation.

In this issue, we also highlight an MUSC first, as we celebrate our first internal living donor kidney transplant chain, and report on groundbreaking research in immunotherapy for lung cancer.
