PMR Residency Program

Welcome to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) PM&R residency program webpage!

As the inaugural program director, it is with great excitement that I introduce you to our residency program! We offer a comprehensive curriculum that balances hands-on experience, didactic learning, and professional development. Our residency program has been thoughtfully designed to foster an environment conducive to training well-rounded physiatrists, future leaders in the field, and research excellence. Intern year provides a strong foundation that will prepare our residents to care for the breadth of patients and pathology that they will encounter in PM&R. PGY2-4 offers an ideal mix of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation experience, including management of spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, limb loss, pain management, pediatric rehabilitation, sports medicine, spasticity management, and electrodiagnostics. Our program provides strong mentorship as well as research opportunities to contribute to advancements in the field.

We have an excellent faculty team who are committed to providing excellent educational experience and their breadth of expertise covers nearly all aspects of PM&R. We are very well supported by the Department of Orthopedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation led by department chair Lee Leddy, MD. Our division chief, Ameet Nagpal, is a fierce advocate for our team as well as physiatry in general throughout the institution, state, and on a national level. Both lead by example and are committed to resident education and the success of PM&R at MUSC.

Last but not least, Charleston is a great place to live! The city offers something for all ages and interests – fantastic restaurants, local breweries, year-round farmers’ markets, museums, shopping, concerts, and of course plenty of sun and sand at one of our many beaches! Whether you choose to live on the peninsula, in West Ashley, Park Circle, Mount Pleasant, James Island, or one of many other neighborhoods - Each offers a unique living experience.

On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you for your interest in our program. I encourage you to explore our website and learn more about our faculty, clinical rotations, didactic curriculum, research opportunities, applicant information! We look forward to meeting you and sharing our vision for the future of PM&R.
