Keller Lee joins Safe Zone Advisory Council

The Department of Surgery is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive culture void of bias and are fortunate to have staff members like Keller Lee, who is an advocate for equity and inclusion and member of the MUSC Safe Zone Program advisory council.  The Safe Zone Program at MUSC is designed to reduce homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism by raising awareness of the presence of these “isms” and their potential impact on individuals in our community.

Lee was a presenter in the November Safe Zone training offered in MyQuest, where a third of the attendees were members of the Department of Surgery. He says feedback was very positive with many attendees reaching out after the session to express their gratitude for the training and knowledge gained.

"The Department of Surgery is setting the bar for others to follow at MUSC," said Lee. "From setting employee pillar goals to take diversity training, to bringing in guest speakers and simply encouraging everyone to be an active participant of change, it is obvious that it is so important to the leaders of the Department to make the environment and culture here inclusive to everyone."

Lee is also on the Board of the Alliance for Full Acceptance, a social justice organization achieving equality and acceptance for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people.
