Thoracic Surgeon Ian Bostock MD MS joins the Department of Surgery

Ian C. Bostock, M.D. MS joins the MUSC Department of Surgery, effective August 23, 2021, as an Assistant Professor in the division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Bostock’s academic and clinical focus is in General Thoracic Surgery. He specializes in lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mesothelioma, mediastinal tumors, chest wall tumors, and benign esophageal diseases such as reflux, achalasia, and paraoesophageal hernias. Additionally, he has an interest in Robotic Surgery.

Dr. Bostock completed his Thoracic Surgery fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and his General Surgery training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. His intern year was completed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He received his Medical Degree and a Masters in Science and Clinical Investigation from Anáhuac University Medical School in Mexico City, Mexico.

During surgical residency at Dartmouth, he was recognized by the students of Geisel School of Medicine for excellence in medical education with the Thomas P. Almy Housestaff Teaching Award and the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.

Dr. Bostock has received several awards for his research in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. He has authored thirty peer-reviewed articles, seven abstracts, nine book chapters, and has presented at more than twenty-five academic meetings across the United States.
