New Faculty

This month, we welcome three new faculty to our Department: Thoracic Surgeon Quynh Chu, M.D., Burn Surgeon Adria Johnson, M.D., and Transplant Surgeon Kannan Samy, M.D. Each joins us exceeding well-trained in their area of surgical expertise. Each joins us exceeding well-trained in their area of surgical expertise. 

 

  • Quynh Chu, M.D. is an assistant professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She specializes in treating diseases of the lung, esophagus, airway, mediastinum, and chest wall. She completed general surgery residency at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, during which time she pursued a research fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Shen then completed specialty training in cardiothoracic surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and its partner institution New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

  • Adria Johnson, M.D., is an assistant professor of Burn Surgery. She completed her general surgery residency at the Maine Medical Center, where she received the Surgical Resident Intern Excellence Award and was inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Johnson then completed specialty training in burn surgery with a Surgical Critical Care/Burn Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

  • Kannan Samy, M.D., is an assistant professor of Transplant Surgery. He joins us from Medical City Fort Worth Hospital, where he served as the Surgical Director of the Pancreas Transplant Program. Dr. Samy completed general surgery residency from the University of Indiana School of Medicine. He then completed a Fellowship in Abdominal Transplant Surgery at Duke University Medical Center. He also completed two post-doctoral Surgery Research Fellowships: one at Duke University Medical Center and one at Emory University School of Medicine.
