E Eriksson MD

Evert Eriksson, M.D., an internationally recognized leader in chest wall trauma, has been appointed President of the Chest Wall Injury Society (CWIS) for the 2025–26 term. The announcement was made during the CWIS Annual Summit, a premier gathering of experts driving innovation in rib fracture research and treatment. CWIS plays a vital role in shaping the future of the field by fostering collaboration, research, and mentorship among leading clinicians and investigators.

For more than a decade, Eriksson has been at the forefront of advancing rib and sternal fracture care at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). His multidisciplinary approach combines precise clinical evaluation, non-operative pain management strategies, and cutting-edge surgical techniques—including advanced rib fixation—to optimize recovery and minimize the need for narcotics. His work at MUSC, in close collaboration with CWIS, has redefined best practices in chest wall injury care, reducing patient pain and improving their recovery.

Eriksson also leads care for complex cases involving nonunion and malunion fractures, and treats rare conditions such as slipped rib syndrome and rib tip syndrome. His continued innovation ensures that patients receive highly specialized, evidence-based care that reflects the latest advancements in the field.

In addition to Eriksson’s appointment, MUSC’s presence was strongly felt throughout this year’s CWIS Annual Meeting. Faculty and trainees contributed significantly to the scientific program, delivering three podium presentations, three case presentations, two poster presentations, and two invited lectures. Matthew Sherrier, M.D. was awarded Best Research Presentation and Alicia Privette, M.D. served as an invited discussant, highlighting MUSC’s leadership and ongoing commitment to excellence in research and education in chest wall injury care.
