Cardiothoracic Surgeon Walker Blanding MD Joins the MUSC Department of Surgery

The MUSC Department of Surgery is pleased to announce Walker Blanding, M.D., joins the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, effective July 1. Dr. Blanding is a lifelong resident of South Carolina, growing up outside of Sumter, SC.

He attended Clemson University majoring in Cancer Biology through Calhoun Honors College. He then earned his Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston graduating AOA. Dr. Blanding completed his surgical training as part of the Integrated Cardiothoracic Residency Program at the Medical University of South Carolina where he gained extensive experience in the fields of cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.

His practice includes all area of general cardiac surgery including coronary artery bypass, valve surgery, minimally invasive and robotic cardiac surgery, and transplantation.
