Students, Residents, and Faculty Receive Awards and Recognition at the South Carolina Chapter ACP Meeting

Congratulations to all of our resident presenters and award winners who participated in the 2021 ACP South Carolina Chapter Meeting!

The American College of Physicians’ South Carolina chapter held its scientific meeting on October 22-24, 2021. The three-day event brought together internists, medical students and residents from across the state to share recent medical advances and to discuss local and national issues facing internal medicine. The conference also featured oral and poster competitions and faculty awards.

At the meeting, MUSC faculty member Kathie L. Hermayer, MD, MS, FACP, professor in the Division of Endocrinology, spoke on “Update on Clinical Diabetes and Therapeutics."

Two MUSC faculty members were honored with awards: Joseph John, MD, affiliate professor of medicine, received the Laureate Award and Wayne Weart, PharmD, professor emeritus of pharmacy and family medicine, received the McFarland Award.

A dozen MUSC residents and students presented posters (full list is below) and we had multiple winners:

  • Student Research – 2nd PLACE - Virginia Lessie, medical student, Impacts of the Covid 19 Pandemic on compliance and HbA1C levels among Adults in a Diabetes Remote Monitoring Program.
