Announcing the Internal Medicine Chief Residents for 2026 – 2027

The MUSC Department of Medicine is proud to announce the Internal Medicine Residency Program’s Chief Residents for 2026–2027. These outstanding physicians have been selected for their leadership, commitment to teaching and scholarship, and dedication to advancing both our residency program and department. They will officially begin their chief roles in July 2026.

The 2026-2027 Chief Residents include:

Sara ArmstrongSara Armstrong, M.D.
Chief Resident, VA Quality & Patient Safety

Dr. Armstrong grew up in Buffalo, NY, and completed her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. She went on to earn her medical degree from the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Drawn to both the academic environment and coastal lifestyle, she moved to Charleston for residency and quickly found it to be the perfect fit.

Following her chief residency, Dr. Armstrong plans to pursue a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Her clinical and research interests include interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and quality improvement initiatives in the ICU.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys relaxing on the Charleston beaches, beating her soon-to-be husband in golf, diving into a good book, and proudly cheering on the Buffalo Bills for their eventual Super Bowl victory.


Jerome DeasVincent Bolus, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine

Dr. Bolus was born in Nashville, TN, and spent most of his formative years in Birmingham, AL. He has three older brothers and a supportive set of parents, all of whom remain his role models. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, where he was a University Fellow, and later received his medical degree from UAB.

He chose Internal Medicine because of the deep satisfaction he finds in diagnosing and managing complex medical cases. He has a particular interest in gastroenterology, especially chronic liver disease.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Bolus enjoys spending time with his wife, Meg, walking their dog Wilbur downtown, roasting/brewing espresso, and playing tennis (poorly).


Natalie DorseyMaria Roell, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine

Dr. Roell grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Dayton. She then went on to attend medical school at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, where she developed a strong interest in academic medicine and clinical research.

Following her chief residency, Dr. Roell plans to pursue a career in gastroenterology. Her current research focuses on inflammatory bowel disease, with an emphasis on improving patient outcomes.

Outside of work, she enjoys running, traveling, and spending time at the beach.


Drew StoneHannah Story, M.D.
Chief Resident, Internal Medicine

Dr. Story grew up outside of Dallas, Texas and received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin where she majored in Spanish and Biology. After graduation, she worked for the American Heart Association in Austin, TX. She attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She and her husband, Chase, were excited to couples match at MUSC.

Dr. Story plans to pursue a career in academic hospital medicine after her year as chief resident. Her academic interests include medical education.

Outside of medicine, she enjoys playing tennis, reading, and spending time outdoors.
