Thoracic Surgeon Marissa Mayor, M.D., Joins the MUSC Department of Surgery

The MUSC Department of Surgery is excited to welcome Marissa Mayor, M.D., to the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Mayor will join us on September 1, 2025. She is a board-certified general surgeon and a fellowship-trained thoracic surgeon who specializes in disorders of the lung, esophagus, chest wall, stomach, and mediastinum.

Dr. Mayor earned her medical degree from Boston University and completed her general surgery residency at Inova Fairfax Medical Center in Falls Church, Virginia. After residency, she served for four years as a U.S. Navy general surgeon in austere and operational environments. Following her military service, she completed a thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia, where she developed expertise in both benign and malignant diseases of the chest.

At MUSC, Dr. Mayor’s practice will focus on providing comprehensive care for thoracic oncology patients, as well as maintaining and promoting expertise in tracheal surgery, airway disease, and benign thoracic and esophageal conditions. She incorporates minimally invasive and robotic approaches into her surgical practice to offer personalized, patient-centered care plans.

Dr. Mayor is also passionate about resident education and advancing quality in thoracic surgery.
