The MUSC Department of Surgery is thrilled to welcome back Dr. Ryan W. King, MD, to the Division of Vascular Surgery. A graduate of the MUSC Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Program in 2022, Dr. King returns to Charleston after serving as an attending vascular surgeon at the University of Kentucky Healthcare for the past three years.

Originally from Gorham, New Hampshire, Dr. King’s journey into medicine began in an unexpected way—through his time as a junior wakeboarder on the Pro Wakeboard Tour. After sustaining injuries that required surgical care, he developed a deep appreciation for the field that ultimately led him to become a surgeon himself.

Dr. King earned his undergraduate degree summa cum laude in biochemistry from Saint Anselm College and completed his medical degree at the University of Central Florida. He then matched into the highly competitive Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Program at MUSC, where he trained under nationally recognized leaders in the specialty.

With a broad expertise in treating the full spectrum of vascular disease, Dr. King has a particular interest in aortic pathology, including aneurysms and dissections. He is dedicated to developing innovative, patient-specific solutions—especially for those with complex anatomy or limited treatment options.

Throughout his career, Dr. King has received numerous awards for both research and education. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in clinical research and trials.

We are excited to welcome Dr. King back to MUSC, where his return strengthens our commitment to delivering world-class vascular care to the Lowcountry and beyond.
