Surgical oncologist Alisa Blumenthaler MD Joins the MUSC Department of Surgery

The MUSC Department of Surgery is excited to welcome Alisa Blumenthaler, M.D. to the Division of Surgical Oncology/HPB and Endocrine Surgery, effective October 1, 2025.

Dr. Blumenthaler is a breast surgical oncologist and assistant professor of surgery who joins MUSC following the completion of her fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in July 2025.

She is deeply committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with all types of breast disease. Her clinical approach emphasizes clear, compassionate communication to support informed and goal-concordant decision-making.

Dr. Blumenthaler's research interests include patient-reported outcomes, shared decision-making in breast surgical oncology, and understanding decisional regret in breast cancer care.

She earned her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed her General Surgery residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis. During residency, she also completed a clinical research fellowship in Surgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where her work focused on communication frameworks in the physician-patient relationship and the role of Palliative Care in Surgical Oncology.
