Meet the Internal Medicine Chief Residents for the 2020-2021 Year

The Department of Medicine is pleased to introduce the four internal medicine residents who will become chief residents in the 2020-2021 academic year.

Chief residency is an additional one-year experience that offers a blend of clinical education and mentoring, patient care and administration. These residents will assume chief roles in July 2020. Congratulations!


Dr. Laurel Branch

Laurel Branch, M.D.

Dr. Branch attended the University of Mississippi School of Medicine where she served as president of the UMMC chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha. She plans to pursue a career in gastroenterology after her year as a chief resident and is currently involved with clinical research in pancreatic disease. Her other academic interests include medical education and leadership development.

Dr. Jessica English

Jessica English, M.D.

Dr. English went to medical school at Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. She plans to pursue a career in academic rheumatology after her year as chief resident. Her academic interests include medical education, curriculum development, and clinical research.

Dr. Nishant Tivedi

Nishant Trivedi, M.D.

Dr. Trivedi grew up in northern Virginia and completed medical school at University of Virginia. After his chief residency, he plans to stay in academic hospital medicine as a clinician educator. His primary academic interests are in medical education and quality improvement.

Dr. Cameron Wilhoit

Cameron Wilhoit, M.D.

Dr. Wilhoit attended medical school at MUSC after obtaining a degree in economics at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He plans on pursuing a career in gastroenterology after completing his chief year. His prior research focuses have included upper GI bleeding, IBD, as well as capsule endoscopy.
