Introducing the Department of Medicine Health Equity Council

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the members of the inaugural Department of Medicine Health Equity Council.

The Health Equity Council is composed of faculty and staff who are committed to helping operationalize health equity efforts within the Department of Medicine. Each division has at least one representative, or ‘Health Equity Champion,’ who will serve as a liaison between the council and their respective division. The Health Equity Council will create goals and develop the first strategic plan for department of medicine equity efforts. Internal and external data will be used to help create our goals and metrics for the measurement of effectiveness, which will be developed by the committee. Health Equity Champions will also play an integral role in helping to garner enthusiasm and generate momentum for our departmental and community-based health equity efforts.

Thank you to all our division directors for your nominations and hard work in helping to assemble this council. I would also like to thank our Chairman, Dr. Clyburn, for his unwavering support of departmental health equity efforts.

Please join me in applauding the members of the inaugural Department of Medicine Health Equity Council. Thank you all for your commitment to a departmental culture that honors and promotes health equity.
