Endowed Chairs represent one of the highest academic honors a university can bestow, recognizing faculty for their exceptional contributions to teaching, research, and service. A skilled researcher, Dr. Schreiner currently serves as principal and co-principal investigator on numerous studies. His research funding includes a R03, a VA Office of Rural Health Innovation Project, a VA Charleston Health Equity and Rural Outreach Innovation Center (HEROIC) Pilot project, and a (K23) grant from the NIDDK to develop a clinical decision tool aimed at helping primary care physicians recognize and treat chronic liver disease in its early stages. He is currently a research mentor for the National Cancer Institute’s “Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award” (K08).

Being named the inaugural chairholder of the Jay Brzezinski, M.D., General Internal Medicine Endowed Chair acknowledges Dr. Schreiner’s exceptional leadership in education and clinical care. “I am deeply honored to be named the Jay Brzezinski, M.D., Endowed Chair in General Internal Medicine,” said Dr. Schreiner. “In this role, I will strive to uphold Dr. Brzezinski’s exemplary standards in education, mentorship, research, and clinical care.”
