Rohit Mittal, M.D. joins the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, effective December 1, 2022.  Prior to joining MUSC, Dr. Mittal was the Assistant Professor of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. He also served as the Director of the Burn Reconstruction Program and Burn Outcomes Research at Grady Memorial Hospital, Burn Center.

At MUSC, Dr. Mittal will be an integral part of the South Carolina Pediatric Burn Center, based at the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, serving as the Pediatric Burn Director. He has been named the Shriners Children’s Endowed Professorship in Pediatric Burn Care at MUSC. In this role, Mittal will treat pediatric burn patients and augment the team at MUSC in their current efforts to perform innovative research that improve quality of care and life of burned children. His expertise in burn surgery will help facilitate the development of a Pediatric Wound Care Program. Dr. Mittal will also care for adult patients on the Trauma/Burn Service.

Dr. Mittal earned his undergraduate degree and medical degree at Emory University. He then completed General Surgery Residency at Emory.  Finally, Dr. Mittal elected pursue additional professional training by completing a Burn/Critical Fellowship, as well as a Burn/Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship, at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he cared for critically ill burn patients.

A published author and researcher, his research focus is on tracking and improving quality and clinical outcomes for burn patients as well as to improve the delivery and quality of burn reconstructive surgery services including laser services.
