Who or what inspired you to pursue your career? How did they inspire you?

“I had a small interest when I was young, but I was told that being a doctor was hard and that it was only “for smart people”. When I was 14 or 15, I saw some tv news report featuring a school in a resource-depleted part of Africa. The classroom had dirt and clay as the floor and the desks and textbooks were all severely damaged. There was a boy that was about my age who said that he wanted to be a doctor when he grew up so that he could take care of his community. That boy inspired me to see past my life’s circumstances and the negativity that people told me and to have the courage to pursue a career in medicine.”
