High School Internship

Teen Science Ambassadors Program

The Teen Science Ambassador program is an internship, offered by the Youth Collaborative, for students with a passion for science. Our ambassadors will learn about career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in medicine.

The mission of the Teen Science Ambassador program is to encourage young people to pursue careers in the STEM field through hands-on research exploration, career preparation, college readiness, and mentorship. To support this mission, our team endeavors to maintain diversity among our ambassadors and engage students from underrepresented groups in medicine.

Undergraduate Internships

Drug Abuse Research Training (DART) Summer Research Fellowship

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) DART program offers a summer research fellowship for students interested in learning more about research. The goal of the DART Summer Fellowship Program is to introduce promising students to research, both basic science and clinical in nature, and afford them the opportunity to work closely with a research mentor and his/her investigative team.

Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) offers outstanding undergraduate students the opportunity to work closely with faculty members on cutting-edge biomedical research projects. Participants in this program are to perform at a graduate student level. Students are matched with faculty members whose research is closely related to the academic interests and professional goals of the students.

Fellowships for PhDs

NIDA T32 Training Grant 

The NIDA training grant is available for postdoctoral fellows interested in gaining knowledge and experience in conducting independent basic and/or clinical substance use research. Trainees are provided with mentorship and direct training, as well as didactic lessons that educate trainees in substance use disorder research.

NIAAA T32 Training Grant

The NIAAA training grant provides support for postdoctoral fellows interested in gaining knowledge and experience in conducting independent basic and/or clinical alcohol research. Trainees are provided with mentorship and direct training, as well as didactic lessons that stress both clinical and basic science aspects of alcohol use.

Psychiatry Residents:

Drug Abuse Research Training (DART) Residency Program

The MUSC Psychiatry Residency Program offers a NIDA-sponsored research track for residents committed to pursuing research careers. The research track can be integrated within any of the three main residency programs and encompasses the last one or two years of residency training.

Psychiatrists:

Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program

The Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program at MUSC provides ACGME accredited psychiatrists with advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of addictive disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.

Training for Junior Faculty

Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH)

The Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Program provides intensive mentored research experiences designed to prepare outstanding junior faculty to become independent investigators in women’s health research.

Mentored Clinical Scientists Program in Drug Abuse & Addiction (NIDA K12)

MUSC's NIDA K12 Program provides intensive mentored research experiences designed to prepare outstanding junior faculty to become independent investigators in drug use and addiction research.

SC Clinical & Translational Research Institute (SCTR) College of Medicine Clinician Scientist K12 Scholars

This K12 program supports the career development of scholars holding a research or health-professional doctoral degree or its equivalent. The goal of the program is to foster the discipline of clinical research and by doing so increase the clinical research capacity to expedite clinical and translational research.

SC Clinical & Translational Research Institute (SCTR) Early Career Scholars Program

The goal of the SCTR KL2 program is to foster the discipline of clinical research and increase clinical research capacity through the training of junior faculty, bridging clinical and translational research training with research independence.

Paul Calabresi Clinical & Translational Oncology Training Program

The goal of the Hollings Cancer Center’s NCI-funded K12 Paul Calabresi Clinical & Translational Oncology Training Program is to train successful, patient-oriented, clinical- and laboratory-based investigators who can work effectively in a collaborative, translational research setting. These Scholars will bridge the knowledge derived from both the laboratory and clinic and apply that knowledge directly to establishing new, effective cancer interventions.
