Sara Ritchie, M.D.

Headshot of Dr. Ritchie

My mother is from Nicaragua in Central America, and my father is from Florida. They moved to Charleston for Mom's dermatology fellowship (Marta Hampton - you might know her!), and thus I am a Charleston native. I attended Rice University in Houston, TX for my undergraduate education, finished med school at MUSC in 2014, and completed my Primary Care Pediatrics Residency at MUSC in 2017. I met my husband, Joe (MUSC '14), during med school. We spent a brief time in Nashville for his fellowship, but I started back with MUSC in 2018 as an attending. I currently lead the MUSC Pediatric Primary Care practice at the Summey Medical Pavilion in North Charleston and spend time supervising the residents in their continuity clinic (one of my favorite things to do!), attending in the nursery, and precepting the clinical skills small group for the first year medical students. I also consult here and there for Flo Health. I love it all! Joe practices Palliative Care with Roper. We have two sons who are so much fun!

How do you manage self-care as a physician?

“I love to exercise and socialize! Similar to my day job(s), I like to incorporate a lot of different activities into my exercise routine. I do Orange Theory fitness, hip hop classes, and Joe and I ballroom dance. We see our family regularly for dinners, and we have a monthly "brunch bunch" with some of our residency friends and their families.”
