Introducing the Department of Medicine Diversity and Inclusion Council

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the members of the inaugural Department of Medicine Diversity and Inclusion Council.

The Diversity and Inclusion Council is composed of faculty and staff who are committed to helping operationalize diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts within the Department of Medicine. Each division has at least one representative, or ‘Diversity Champion,’ who will serve as a liaison between the council and their respective division. The Diversity and Inclusion Council will create goals and develop the first strategic plan for department of medicine DEI efforts. Internal and external data will be used to help create our goals and metrics for the measurement of effectiveness, which will be developed by the committee. Diversity Champions will also play an integral role in helping to garner enthusiasm and generate momentum for our departmental and community-based DEI efforts.

Thank you to all our division directors for your nominations and hard work in helping to assemble this council. I would also like to thank our Chairman, Dr. Clyburn, for his unwavering support of departmental diversity and inclusion efforts.

Please join me in applauding the members of the inaugural Department of Medicine Diversity and Inclusion Council. Thank you all for your commitment to a departmental culture that honors and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.
