Cleft-VPD Interactive Conference

Conference Description

Joint Meeting of the Cleft/VPD Interactive Conference &
International Symposium on
Velopharyngeal Dysfunction
November 1-2, 2024

This conference is an in-person 2-day conference that utilizes an interactive platform of panel discussions, Q&A’s, breakout sessions, simulations, and scientific presentations to discuss management of children with cleft lip and palate and velopharyngeal dysfunction.  The conference will engage the perspective of multiple disciplines that care for this complex population. Sessions will allow for opportunities to discuss the most up-to date educational information, as well as offer a forum to debate challenging treatment scenarios.  The course will be sponsored by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Overall Learning Objectives

The conference focuses on the needs of medical providers of the multidisciplinary team that cares for children born with cleft lip and palate as well as velopharyngeal dysfunction. After participating in this CME and CEU activity, learners should be able to:

- Utilize the interdisciplinary expertise offered in team environments to optimize cleft care.

- Critically evaluate the findings in patients with velopharyngeal dysfunction and formulate treatment plans

- Comprehend the increased complexity when evaluating velopharyngeal dysfunction in children who have a 22q11.2 deletion syndrome

- Understand the rationale for the different surgical techniques used to repair cleft lip and palate

- Evaluate the speech sound disorders caused by cleft palate and velopharyngeal dysfunction
