Catching up

‌I am doing well personally. I have a 10 year old daughter named Abigail who is in fourth grade, and we live in Gainesville, FL She stays busy with soccer year round. We are Disney Annual Passholders, so we spend a great deal of time at the parks in addition to spending time outdoors fishing.

Currently

‌I am currently working at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in the Division of Acute Care Surgery. I have been there since September 2020. My two greatest accomplishments since completion of residency are obtaining my MBA and becoming the Surgical Critical Care Program Director at the University of Florida. Both have added a great deal to my professional career..

Research

‌I work on clinical research using our institutional trauma registry. I have an IRB approved through the University of Florida that allows me to look at clinical outcomes in trauma patients. I work with residents and fellows on clinical projects. Every academic year I have about 2-3 presentations at national meetings that result in 1-2 publications. A big part of my career is clinical practice; therefore, I am very interested in clinical outcomes and how I can improve them in my patient population.

Training at MUSC

‌My training at MUSC reinforced my interest in academic medicine. I would say the four most influential faculty in my training were Dr. Crookes, Dr. Leon, Dr. Norcross, and Dr. George. Dr. Crookes has been a great source of advice since completion of residency. Dr. Norcross was my mentor during training. Dr. Leon was very inspiring and great to learn from during residency. Dr. George left an impression on me from a technical standpoint. I miss the people at MUSC and the food in Charleston!

Advice to Current Residents

‌My best advice for residents training at MUSC is to see as much as you can and be a part of as many innovative activities as possible. Seeing unique experiences at an academic medical center like MUSC has helped me feel more comfortable when going to a new place to practice.
