Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity is having a seat at the table, inclusion is having a voice, and belonging is having that voice be heard.
-Liz Fosslien

At the Medical University of South Carolina, both the institutional and departmental mission is to welcome and celebrate individuals of various backgrounds and multicultural experiences.

Therefore, we strongly encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented groups in radiology.

Our goal is to embrace a radiology residency program that promotes inclusive excellence in areas of recruitment, teaching, and patient care. With this intention, we aim to increase the diversity within residents, fellows, faculty and staff. In the confidence that, as a program, we will promote an educational environment rooted in communication, collaboration and collegiality. This in turn, will allow people to understand and be understood, and work together to change what's possible.

Furthermore, our radiology residency program fosters a culture of openness and nondiscrimination. We do not tolerate or accept religious discrimination, sexism, systemic racism, xenophobia, prejudice based on gender reassignment/identity or sexual orientation, and all other forms of exclusion.

We encourage students from underrepresented groups, including students with disabilities, those from rural backgrounds, first-generation college students, members of the LGBTQ+ community, those from disadvantaged or marginalized backgrounds, and other students interested in addressing health care disparities in the communities they serve, to apply to the AHEAD Visiting Student Program.
