Over the years, the Jaffa laboratory has contributed significantly to much of our understanding of the involvement of the kallikrein-kinin system, lipoproteins and growth factors as risk markers in the pathogenesis of diabetic renal and vascular disease. They have discovered novel mechanisms of receptor activation, signal transmission and receptor cross talk and heterodimerization. More recently they have developed an interest in defining the genetic, molecular and biochemical biomarkers that confer and predict risk for development of vascular complications in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
