Safety Heroes

A patient scheduled for a test at the Pulmonary and Rheumatology clinic suddenly became unresponsive. The nurses noted the patient was pulseless and immediately called for help. Care team members in the clinic sprung into action providing chest compressions, placing the patient on the Zoll AED, and calling 911. Deidra, Chris, and Rick were able to revive the patient by practicing high quality basic life support (BLS) skills, including delivering a shock to the patient. EMS transporters safely transported the patient to the emergency room for further evaluation. Their quick action and coordination made a real difference in this patient’s outcome. Thank you to the team: Brian Quick, RT; Rick Bennett, LPN; Deidra Anderson, RN; Katie Benfield, RN; Kristine Ritenour, RN; and Chris Kling, RT.
